National Water Week 2016

The Department of Water and Sanitation appeals to all South Africans to play a role in conserving and protecting the country’s water resources.

The Department of Water and Sanitation celebrates National Water Week 2016 from 14 to 22 March under the theme ‘Water for people – water by people. Water has no substitute’.

The campaign seeks to encourage citizens to conserve water and to ensure its sustainability for future supply.

This year’s celebrations of the National Water Week will coincide with World Water Day which is on 22 March.

National Water Week and World Water Day takes place during March, but activities centred around the national campaign are ongoing for the rest of the month which therefore makes it Water Month.

The department appeals to all South Africans to play a role in conserving and protecting the country’s water resources.

This year’s National Water Week comes at a time when this precious finite resource faces a number of challenges across the country, including among others the drought.

The government and the department is working closely with provinces to address the challenges in the short, medium to long-term.

There are a number of activities that are organised by the department’s national and provincial offices.

The department encourages partners in the water sector, including civil society organisation, industry, provincial and local government to spread the crucial message of water conservation.
