Woman flung from bakkie dies after being hit by vehicle
Emergency services worked for more than half an hour to extricate her from under the chassis of oncoming car
A bakkie carrying passengers on the back overturned on Friday night, 11 March, killing a woman who was flung off and hit by another vehicle.
At about 10.15pm, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to the accident scene on the N2 south near theĀ Umbogintwini off-ramp.
Reports from the scene indicate the bakkie had veered off the road and overturned. A woman sitting on the back was thrown from the vehicle and landed on the northbound carriageway, where she was hit by another vehicle.
When paramedics arrived, they found the woman still trapped under the chassis of the vehicle that hit her. Emergency services worked tirelessly for more than half an hour to extricate her from under the vehicle. She died at the scene due to the extensive injuries that she sustained. Four other people were injured but were removed to hospital privately before paramedicsā arrival.
The police will investigate the cause of the crash.
