Voter registration call this weekend

Voting stations will open from 7.30am to 5pm.

This weekend marks the first registration weekend leading up to local government elections – the date of which is still to be announced.

Voting stations will open from 7.30am to 5pm to afford residents the opportunity to register and also to check whether they appear on the voters roll.

Residents are reminded that the criteria to vote in local government elections are different from national elections, as they can only register and vote within the municipal ward where they stay.

Anyone who has relocated since the 2011 elections, or who is unsure whether they are registered to the correct voting station, or anyone who has turned 18 since the last elections – and who is a South African citizen – is urged to present their barcoded identity document or the new identity card to their closest voting station for registration purposes.

Voting stations within the larger Amanzimtoti area:

Ward 97 – Warner Beach Junior Primary School in Harcombe Road, Warner Beach; Lions Club in Hall Road, Warner Beach; Doonheights Primary School in Longacres Drive, Doonheights; Amanzimtoti Civic Centre on the corner of Hutchison and Riverside roads, Amanzimtoti.

Ward 93 – Kuswag Skool in Kuswag Lane, Amanzimtoti; Athlone Park library in Warner Street, Athlone Park; Umbogintwini Primary School in Prince Street, Umbogintwini.

Home registrations will not be conducted during the weekend, but attended to at a later stage.

For more information, contact ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge on 082-718-8137.
