Police prioritise school safety in Isipingo

This is one of many programmes to be implemented in schools to ensure they are safe and secure

ISIPINGO SAPS has embarked on a school safety programme in line with the school-based crime prevention strategies with all schools in Isipingo.

“There are 13 schools in the area and all were visited during this month. School safety committee meetings were held between the police, teachers and school governing bodies,” said Isipingo SAPS communication officer, Captain David Ragavan.

“The purpose of these meetings was to implement strategies in schools to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for both pupils and teachers.”

During discussions, it was discovered that few teachers are trained in basic first aid and that a number of incidents of pupils getting injured at school were reported where they had to wait long periods to receive medical treatment.

“Therefore as part of the school safety initiative, we have engaged the services of one of our partners, PT Alarms who will provide training at no cost to schools on basic skills to treat common injuries including cuts, abrasions, burns, sprains and fractures, and CPR to all teachers.

This is one of the many programmes that we will implement in schools to ensure they are safe and secure,” said Capt Ragavan.

The programme was received with great enthusiasm by teachers and Isipingo police thanks PT Alarms for providing the training.
