UPDATE: Arrest in Lewis Drive murder

Raymond sustained a stab wound in his right leg and a fatal gunshot wound in the right side of his chest.

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting and death of Toti resident, Raymond Collyer (43) in his Lewis Drive home on Friday night, 19 February.

According to police, the man was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm during an intelligence operation by Umlazi detectives and the Brighton Beach task team in the early hours of Tuesday, 23 February.

The 25-year-old was linked to carjackings in the Margate and Plessislaer areas this month, as well as the Toti house robbery and murder case.

Police said Raymond was at home having a get-together with family and friends.

He and his brother Grant were watching TV in the lounge when he heard his wife scream in the kitchen.

Four armed men entered the lounge and demanded car keys.

Raymond and Grant tussled with the robbers to try and disarm them. Raymond sustained a stab wound in his right leg and a fatal gunshot wound in the right side of his chest.

Grant was hit in the face by one of the robbers with the butt of a firearm and sustained bruises on his forehead.

One of the family members managed to activate the panic alarm and the robbers fled the scene on foot with watches, jewellery and cellphones after jumping the fence.
Investigations are continuing.
