Joint effort nets housebreaking gang

A blue Corolla was spotted driving slowly by and the CCPO and Metro Police jammed it in.

Swift reaction from a combination of law enforcement companies and the Metro Police dog unit netted four housebreakers on Friday morning, 12 February.

“A report of suspects breaking into a property in Fynn Road was received at about 9.45am,” said Community Crime Prevention Organisation operations (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey.

The CCPO, Blue Security, ET Rapid Response, Chubb Security and Metro Police dog handler, Shawn Jooste responded.

Upon investigation it was found the security gate had been forced open and at least one robber was still inside the premises.

Realising his escape route was blocked, he smashed through a plate window and tried to escape, but was collared as he attempted to jump over a fence.

“His phone kept on ringing and we suspected it was the getaway vehicle, so we made him tell whoever was on the other side to come and collect them,” said Snodey.

A blue Corolla with three accomplices inside was spotted driving slowly by the meeting place and the CCPO and Metro Police jammed it in.

A pump and laptop was recovered at the scene from a break-in at another property and the four housebreakers were arrested.

“This was a beneficial joint operation between various roleplayers that resulted in a good arrest,” said Snodey. “Housebreakers coming in vehicles are the dangerous ones, as they are in and out so quickly. They load up the stolen goods in a getaway car and are gone in a matter of seconds.”

One of the arrested men was a suspect in a housebreaking in Ndongeni Drive in September 2015.
