AWI back after three-month hiatus

Join in the fun, companionship, caring and sharing that the Women’s Institute can offer you.

AMANZIMTOTI Women’s Institute (WI) first meeting this year held on 9 February, was exciting for members to see their WI friends again after a three-month break, and to catch up with all the news.

President, Muriel Hartwig welcomed all members and visitors Alice Glenister and Sue von Tonder.

A special welcome to new member Myrna Olyott. It was a pleasure to welcome Grace Finch back from her one year absence for various commitments. Esther Drennan will be taking a year’s leave and AWI looks forward to her return next year. Members were sad to say goodbye to Isobel Newby and Debbie Eloff who have resigned. They will truly miss their smile and friendship.

AWI had no speaker this month, but members were asked to ‘show and tell’ various treasures they kept and the story of their existence, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Muriel handed members a notice from the Federated Women’s Institute to invite new friends to join WI, which read “Discover a fuller and more interesting lifestyle which will help you to develop your skills and discover your hidden talents. Become involved in community interests, handicraft, music and drama, floral art and gardening, adult education and many other activities, and not forgetting a scrumptious tea and cake break. Join in the fun, companionship, caring and sharing that the Women’s Institute can offer you.”

Members wear a WI badge they proudly wear to meetings inscribed ‘For home and country’.

Norma Veldtman gave members a quiz this month by reading one line of a nursery rhyme, and everyone had to give the title. What fun to bring back memories of these rhymes that members told their children.
