Life sentence for 10-year-old’s rapist

We urge all parents to take care of their children by not leaving them alone.

A Kwamakhutha man received a life imprisonment in Umlazi Regional Court on Monday, 8 February for raping a 10-year-old girl at Ezimbokodweni reserve.

“The court meted out this stern sentence after it heard how the victim had suffered at the hands of Macdonald Mtembeniza (30),” said Major Thulani Zwane of the SAPS KZN media centre.

The ‘nightmare’ started from January 2015 when Mtembeniza called the victim to his house, raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

It continued until she was questioned by an adult who noticed that she was not well in April.

She told the adult that the accused used to take her from her home in the absence of her parent, who was at work at the time, and rape her.

The matter was taken to KwaMakhutha police, where a case of rape was opened.

It was transferred to the Umlazi family violence, child protection and sexual offences (FCS) unit for investigation.

On finalising their investigation, FCS detectives arrested the accused. He was then taken to court where he was tried until his successful conviction.

KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded Umlazi FCS for thoroughly investigating the case and securing a conviction with a good sentence.

“We urge all parents to take care of their children by not leaving them alone. We promise all sexual predators that we will do everything to put them in jail indefinitely,” he said.
