A police sweep of KwaMakhutha netted 11 wanted suspects for various crimes in the area.

The operation started on Wednesday, 10 February and continued to Thursday morning when members arrested suspects for crimes including murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of drugs.

All arrested suspects are due to appear in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court soon.

“Members vowed they will continue with such operations to make sure those involved in any criminal activities are brought to book,” said Major Thulani Zwane of the SAPS KZN media centre.

“They will target and raid hotspots, including liquor outlets, shebeens and other affected areas to combat crime.”

KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police for the arrests they made.

“I encourage the community to always work closely with the police in the fight against crime. They must not buy stolen goods and report those selling such goods.

The community must not hide criminals in their areas, but they must expose them,” she said.
