Two young children miraculously escaped harm when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and overturned on Seadoone Road, just past the mall on Monday, 1 February at about 10.15am.
The green Uno rounded the bend just after the mall, lost control and hit the pavement on its side before careening across the road – narrowly missing an oncoming car.
“Paramedics who responded found the vehicle on its roof, with two small passengers inside. Miraculously they were unharmed,” said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.
“The driver had left the scene, leaving behind his anxious and afraid little passengers, aged about four and five-years-old, who were apparently unrestrained in the vehicle.
The children were examined and contact was made with relatives to collect them from the crash site.”
In a separate accident, 11 people were injured on the R102 at Karridene Hotel on Monday morning at 9.40am.
“A car stopped to turn right into Karridene and a taxi tried to overtake, but realised the car was turning,” said Chris. “In swerving to miss the car, it smashed into a pole at the roadside.”
In a another accident, eight people were injured, one serious, after a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on the P728 in Umgababa on Monday at about 7.39am.
“Paramedics found the taxi and vehicle parked on the side of the road with passengers from the taxi walking around.
The driver of the car had to be spinally immobilised and seven children were treated for minor injuries.
One adult and six children, aged between nine and 12, sustained minor injuries in the collision. Paramedics treated the patients and transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Eighteen people sustained injuries in two separate accidents in Toti on Saturday, 30 January.
Paramedics received a call for an accident on the N2 south near the Doonside off-ramp at about 8.15pm.
“Reports from the scene indicate that a vehicle travelling to Doonside collided into the rear of another vehicle, that came to rest in the slow lane.”
Four people sustained injuries, ranging from serious to minor.
“The crumpled remains of the vehicles and accident debris were spread over the slow and breakdown lanes of the highway.”
Paramedics stabilised the injured at the scene before they transported them to various hospitals.
Earlier that day paramedics responded to a head-on collision between a car and a taxi on the M37.
“They found the crumpled remains of the car in the intersection of the M35 and the KwaMakutha link road, while the taxi came to rest against the Armco barriers about 50 metres down the roadway,” said Chris.
After triaging the injured, it was found that 14 people sustained injuries, ranging from serious to minor. Medics stabilised the injured at the scene before transporting them to various hospitals.
