Low cost housing project underway

The project is being implemented in four phases.

eThekwini Municipality is constructing low cost housing as part of an upgrade in Ezimbokodweni.

The development will consist of a total of residential units, two commercial units, a community facility and 19 internal new roads.

“The project is an upgrade intended to provide housing to residents of the Ezimbokodweni informal settlement,” said eThekwini head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

“The total number of houses provided will be about 1,540, pending final planning approval. The project is being implemented in four phases. Phase one is under construction, with 204 of the 300 houses in this phase completed.

The provincial department of human settlements is currently considering the application for phase two top-structure implementation, and the procurement of installation of services for this phase will start soon.

Phases three and four are in the design and planning stages.”
