Make sure your valuables are not visible to a potential smash-and-grab opportunist.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) warns motorists to be aware when taking the Winklespruit off-ramp from the N2 south.

“In the afternoon when it is busy and traffic is backed up, suspicious loiterers have been observed walking along the off-ramp looking into cars,” said CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone.

“Make sure your valuables are not visible to a potential smash-and-grab opportunist.”

In an unrelated incident, a burglar was apprehended by the CCPO after three thieves gained access to a complex in Longacres Drive, Doonheights on Saturday night, 16 January. “They managed to enter one of the units where they stole some cellphones,” said Leon.

One thief jumped from an upper level window after struggling with the resident and he was caught by Blue Security and CCPO guard Cyprian Dlungele.”

The resident sustained some injuries in the struggle and the other two thieves escaped.

In a separate incident, a well-known burglar was apprehended by the CCPO after he attempted to break into a house in Ridge Road, Amanzimtoti in the early hours of Friday, 15 January. He has been apprehended a number of times by the CCPO and arrested by Toti SAPS in the past for house breaking.

“CCPO supervisor Wayne Smerdon and guard Cyprian responded. A suspect well known to CCPO was caught by Cyprian on the premises and property was recovered,” said Leon.
