Animal dinner fund breaks record

We did have a lot of strays being brought in over the festive period

Toti SPCA celebrated a new record amount of funds raised through its annual Animal Dinner Fund of over R29,000.

Contributions to the fund go towards purchasing food for the homeless and destitute animals that are housed by Toti SPCA over the festive season.

In 2013 the fund collected R18,000, which was surpassed by last year’s amount of R25,000.

“Despite the economic climate, we received a record amount of R29,450 this year. Thank you so much to all those who donated. Due to your donations, many hurt and homeless animals could be housed and fed by the SPCA over the festive season,” said the fund’s co-ordinator, Marlene Prinsloo.

Toti SPCA manager, Tracey Girling said: “I would like to thank all the people that so kindly and generously donated to the fund. To Marlene Prinsloo a very big thank you for once again receiving the donations and messages and sending them off to be published in the Sun. To Earl and staff of the South Coast Sun, a very big thank you for your continued support throughout the year.

I wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2016.

We did have a lot of strays being brought in over the festive period, but many where claimed the same day or the following day, although we do still have some left.

The fireworks were as bad as in previous years, especially the big bangs which frighten animals.

Calming tablets for your animals do work, but as it is a natural substance it might work for some dogs and not for others. They might also wear off quicker on some dogs than others. We sell a lot of the festive season, but people do believe in them and we give tablets to all our animals here over that period.”
