Fleeing pedestrian dies in N2 crash

A woman passenger was injured.

A PEDESTRIAN was struck by a bakkie and killed after being chased on to the N2, near the Doonside off-ramp on Sunday, 10 January at about 8.20pm.

“According to reports from the scene, the bakkie with six occupants was travelling to Umlazi when a man running away from people chasing him landed in front of the vehicle. Paramedics found his body lying on the side of the highway about 100m from where the bakkie stopped. He was declared dead at the scene,” said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.

“The pedestrian slid across the bonnet of the bakkie before he smashed through the windshield and slammed into a woman sitting in the passenger seat. Medics treated her and after immobilising her on a trauma board, transported her to a hospital in Amanzimtoti for further care.”
