Deaths on ‘Twini Hill’ – in remembrance of all those who have lost their lives.

Councillors help us - We want no deaths on this stretch of road in 2016

EDITOR – I stay on ‘Twini Hill’ where the air is filled with the ‘bittersweet cries’ of blaring sirens on a daily basis.

How many more serious and tragic accidents must still happen on ‘Umbogintwini Hill’ before our municipality and SANRAL try to prevent any further deaths?

How is it that a ‘high risk hijacking zone’ sign be errected at the intersection of Kynoch and Old Main Road (Wanda Cele Road) by SANRAL in conjunction with the municipality, after a number of attempted hijackings were reported in the vicinity in December 2015, (Sun headline: December 3, 2015 – ‘Hijack alert for notorious junction‘).

But when residents of Amanzimtoti and especially of Umbogintwini and Athlone Park asked for ‘high accident zone’ signs to be erected at the bottom of Twini Hill on the southbound lane of the N2 and at Amanzimtoti on the northbound lane of the N2, it was ignored, yet people die here, nearly on a daily basis. Why are these signs of less importance?

I do believe that I am talking on behalf of every person living in Amanzimtoti. Can our councillors take it up with SANRAL and erect warning signs, ‘high accident zone for the next 10km’ on the N2 going south at the bottom of Umbogintwini Hill and at Amanzimtoti on the N2 going north, before more people have to pay with their lives on this notorious stretch of road in 2016.

Its nonsensical to say that residents must wait for the toll road upgrade before this matter will be attended to. We want no deaths on this stretch of road in 2016. Councillors help us – it affects everybody.

Let’s stand together Amanzimtoti because we still want everybody to be alive and well in 2016.
