What to do in case of Burns

1. Remove the heat source from the patient or the patient from the heat source.

2. Immerse the nurned area in cold water or apply a wet cloth to reduce the pain. Apply cold water till the burned area is pain free. Can take up to 20 minutes.

3. Remove tight clothing, rings, jewellery and watches from the injured area due to the risk of swelling.

4. After the burn has been cooled, apply a non-sterile dressing.

5. Do not pop any blisters or remove any peeling skin.

6. Do not remove any clothing that is stuck to the burn.

7. Do not apply creams, lotions or ointments to the burned area as anything that has been placed onto the burn will have to be scrubbed off later at the hospital.

8. Keep a burned arm or leg raised to reduce swelling and pain.

9. Seek medical care by calling 082 911.
