Have a heart for animals

A reader asks: Is this how SPCA helps animals? - read SPCA Manager's response

EDITOR – A certain person shouldn’t be working at the SPCA as she doesn’t have a heart for dogs or people.

I was in a bad emotional state when I went there, asking for help.

She kept saying we were not allowed so many dogs on a property. This was besides the point. She didn’t even give me a chance to tell her why I needed help.

I had to hand my dogs over because she said that was the only way. I didn’t have the money to book them in at that moment.

Had she listened to my story, they could have helped me and my dogs for a few days and they could still be happy with us. After a few days I called to check on them and was told they were all doing well. That was a lie because some of them were apparently getting vicious and had to be put down. They were not vicious but scared.

I wanted to adopt some of them back but was told they are not there anymore. Why did my dogs not even get a chance of being helped? I feel they are not there for my dogs. If they had only listened, the outcome would have been so much happier.

Is this how SPCA helps animals? I don’t think so.

AC MURPHY

EDITOR – We first became aware of Mrs Murphy’s situation when her landlord phoned to complain about the living conditions.

She was renting the garage and had seven dogs and six cats that were messing all over the place, which was not being cleaned.

Mrs Murphy was given notice and ended up living in her car with the animals. When she came to the SPCA, it appeared Mrs Murphy was not well. I explained to her that living in a car with seven dogs would become a problem as the public would lodge complaints and hygienically, it’s a very bad situation.

She agreed to sign the dogs over to us as she had no funds to board the animals with us and was not sure of the vaccination history, which is very important in a boarding facility.

I’m sorry for Mrs Murphy’s situation and do hope she finds somewhere to stay soon.
