No permanent closure of Beach Rd in December

To obtain an entry permit, contact Captain Collet Francis at the Isipingo Metro Police office on 031-910-7321 or 031-910-7300.

Entry permits for accessing Beach Road on public holidays are still being printed.

To obtain an entry permit, residents need to contact Captain Collet Francis at the Isipingo Metro Police office on 031-910-7321 or 031-910-7300.

Due to previous year’s traffic chaos along Beach Road, a pilot project to regulate the festive season traffic by closing the road on 16 and 26 December and 1 January proved successful last year.

Permits are used to assist police with traffic control in the event that they conduct spontaneous road blocks,” said Sapphire Coast Tourism chairman, Kim McCarthy.

“Hire vehicles will be facilitated by showing letters of confirmed reservation matching the visitors’ identity documents or passports.

Non-access vehicles, such as buses and taxi kombis, will not be permitted on Beach Road between 12 December and 12 January. This does not affect normal vehicles needing to get to Beach Road for business or pleasure during this period, provided there is sufficient parking available.”

Permits will be available daily from the second week in December at the Metro Police kiosk on the corner of Carlyle and Beach roads. Residents are requested to take a copy of their light bill and car registration numbers. Holidaymakers booked into Beach Road must have proof of ID with reservation confirmation.

No permanent closure of Beach Road is expected this year, but it will be under active control.

All body corporates, holiday letting owners, residents and business owners based in Beach Road are urged to get their permits.
