Lover’s quarrel takes tragic turn

The Sun could not confirm whether or not either of the couple had died.

A lover’s quarrel turned tragic when a man shot his girlfriend in the head, before turning the gun on himself on Monday morning, 16 November just metres from the entrance to the municipal offices on Old Main Road.

According to Zulweni Gardens resident, Decian Romani, at about 7.10am his wife left their flat and saw a woman lying on the ground, with a man standing over her.

“I heard a shot when I was still inside,” he said. “When I left and drove past, I saw the man on his knees, kneeling over her. A car had stopped by them, so I thought maybe it had hit her.”

Decian said after he drove past, he heard another shot and when he turned his motorcycle around, saw the man fall back.

“The woman was walking to work with her friend. When I spoke to her afterwards she said it was a lover’s quarrel and the woman was leaving him. He waited in the bushes by the turnstile to the entrance to the municipal offices. He apparently walked up to his girlfriend and shot her in the head at point blank range.

I saw blood coming out of the left hand side of her head. He was mumbling to himself before he shot himself. It was surreal.”

The Sun could not confirm whether or not either of the couple had died.

Toti police confirmed an incident did take place and will provide more detail after an initial investigation at the scene.
