Future of the N2 lies in balance

If given the opportunity to hear what we here at Amanzimtoti feel about our future development or if left to one-sided plans the degradation and daily commuting hassles and frustrations the above ideas will receive our fullest support.

EDITOR – This is an urgent appeal to SANRAL, the Minister of Transport, Minister of Environment, eThekwini Municipality and all powers who have a say in the future transport and railway corridors that will be the best solutions for all concerned, to now come forward with all possible plans and proposals which will be needed for the future dug out port south of Durban at Prospecton and Isipingo.

No section or grouping can work in isolation and at the moment, SANRAL is asked to hold back any plans to make alterations to the N2 here at Toti and Isipingo until a holistic and thorough joint investigation has taken place, that will take into account firstly that something must be done to undo the early decisions to place a national road right in the middle of Amanzimtoti. Also, the early and obviously easy decisions to place a railway right in the middle of Toti and all along the beachfronts at Kingsburgh, Doonside Warner Beach and Illovo – we all know what serious consequences this had of road and rail bridges disappearing into the sea.

If given the opportunity to hear what we here at Amanzimtoti feel about our future development or if left to one-sided plans the degradation and daily commuting hassles and frustrations the above ideas will receive our fullest support.

Speaking as a resident for the last 40 years, and on behalf of all who have opposed the N2 Wild Coast toll road, the general consensus was then and still is now, that the national road and railway should be moved westwards.

However there are many and possible alternatives which need to aired fully, repeating the above request, for a joint and integrated and honestly public participated solution.
