Beach Road access subject to permits in December

Beach Road will be closed from the Link Road intersection down towards Pipeline from 12 December to 12 January.

All body corporates, holiday letting owners, residents and business owners based in Beach Road need to obtain an entry permit for the upcoming festive season from Metro Police’s Isipingo station, based at 92 Main Road.

Due to previous year’s traffic chaos along Beach Road, a pilot project to regulate the festive season traffic by closing the road on 16 and 26 December and 1 January proved successful last year.

Beach Road will be closed from the Link Road intersection (Rogies Park) down towards Pipeline from 12 December to 12 January, which is when permits are valid for.

Buses, taxis and cars will be allowed down Link Road off Kingsway to drop off passengers at the intersection near Toti Mall and loop back along Rosslyn Road, where parking will be available in the old CBD parking area along Commercial Road.

The north left-hand lane of Kingsway from Michelle Court to the new Caltex garage at Inyoni Rocks Road will be blocked off to allow for passengers to be dropped off so that they can walk down to the beach areas.

Information to be submitted to Metro Police for a permit includes: Names of visitors staying in Beach Road during that period, period of stay and car registration number.

“Should you not want to go to Isipingo, Metro Police will have a temporary kiosk on the corner of Beach and Carlyle roads during that period from 8am to 10pm and they will issue your permit from the kiosk,” said Sapphire Coast Tourism PRO, Monique Botha. “Business owners and residents along Beach Road are urged to get a permit.”
