SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: KZN Quilters Guild quilt show and open day from 9am to noon at Durban Girls High School, Glenwood. The show will have shops, quilting demonstrations and tea. Visitors pay R40. Call Pauline on 082-806-9149.

SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Sanctuary of the Great White Light, 9 Barrow Street, Umkomaas holds a bi-annual clairvoyant day. This promises to be an exciting day as there are several clairvoyants, reiki practitioners, tea cup readers, as well as guide portrait artists. SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hikers will tackle the African Fish Eagle trail with lots of birdlife through the Beachwood mangroves and along the north bank of the Umgeni river. Meet at Green Hub Durban at 8am to leave at 8.15am. The hike will be cancelled if it rains. Take cash for tea at Springfield SPCA at the halfway mark. The trail is about 13km long. MONDAY, 2 NOVEMBER: Cottage Patch Quilters Guild hosts its monthly meeting at 9.15am in Amanzimtoti library’s activities room. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call Hazel on 031-916-1906.

MONDAY, 9 NOVEMBER: Toti Conservancy holds a public meeting to address the alien invasive species problem at 6pm for 6.30pm at Toti library hall. The object of the meeting is to inform property owners and the public of their responsibility regarding the removal of alien vegetation from their gardens and the legal liability involved.

MONDAY, 9 NOVEMBER: South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP) end-of-year lunch at Toti Country Golf Club to be paid for at this meeting, at R65 per person.

SATURDAY, 21 NOVEMBER: Kloof Gorge day hike upstream to two waterfalls with the Mountain Backpackers Club. Hikers will leave at 8.30am from the picnic site carpark.

There is a small entrance fee. Take sun protection, hat, water, snacks and a rain jacket. Moderate fitness is required. Confirm with John McGovern beforehand on 082-659-5111.

SATURDAY, 14 NOVEMBER: Fundraiser to support Mooihawens dementia and Alzheimer’s disease care centre with relationship expert and author, Gretha Wiid as guest speaker at Sweetwaters Church in Sanders Road from 9am. WEDNESDAY, 2 DECEMBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hosts a beach walk from Umdloti to Umhlanga over a distance of about 12,5km on sand. Meet at 8am at Umdloti beach carpark to walk to Umhlanga and back. Lunch at the Bush Tavern afterwards, so book in advance. The walk will be cancelled if it rains.
