Robber’s hide and seek plan goes awry

He was going to spend the night on the premises and make a quick getaway the next morning.

A robber’s daring plan to hide overnight in an Isipingo factory to rob it was foiled on Saturday night, 24 October.

“One of our clients called the control room at about 7pm to say there was a suspect on his premises in Kathor Road,” said Alpha Alarms communications officer, Krishnee Naidoo.

The control room dispatched response officers to the address, where staff members outside the property informed them the thief was locked inside.

“A staff member opened the gate and after entering cautiously, the response officers apprehended the man who had accumulated various items that he intended stealing.

It is believed the ingenious thief snuck into the business premises while it was open and hid himself. The owners had closed their business at about 6.30pm. It is alleged he then switched the lights on and began looting the property. Someone passing by noticed the lights and contacted the owner.”

The thief told response officers he was waiting for his friend to pass the stolen items to him. He was then going to spend the night on the premises and make a quick getaway the next morning.

“According to staff members this may not have been the thief’s first time on the property, as they had noticed items missing previously, but could not explain their disappearance,” said Krishnee.

The brazen thief was handed over to Isipingo SAPS, where he was charged and detained.
