Don’t feed bread to sanctuary birds

According to a post on Amanzimtoti Trader, a member of the public noted a spur winged goose at the bird sanctuary with a crop which looked 'like a small balloon'.

AN appeal has gone out to the public to not feed bread to the birds at the Toti Bird Sanctuary, as it affects them adversely.

According to a post on Amanzimtoti Trader, a member of the public noted a spur winged goose at the bird sanctuary with a crop which looked ‘like a small balloon’.

“My only guess is either too much bread or possible sour crop from bread. If it is sour crop, he’s still very strong and would be impossible to catch. (We) would ultimately have to wait until he weakens to catch him,” read the post.

In the absence of signage at the sanctuary, outlining what to feed and not to feed the birds and fish, it would be best for the public to use only chicken feed or duck pellets when feeding the birds.
