Robbers’ river escape thwarted

A Metro officer tackled one man, who was arrested, while another surrendered.

Two business robbers were arrested by Metro Police dog unit following a chase by Metro and a response officer in Isipingo on Monday, 19 October.

“Alpha Alarms control room received a call from a client that there were robbers trying to break into his premises in Rana Road,” said communications officer, Krishnee Naidoo.

Response officer, Lucky Khumalo attended to the complaint and on his arrival, saw three men fleeing the area.

He gave chase and the men jumped over a wall into another property in Rana Road.

“Metro Police arrived with the K9 unit within minutes and assisted in the pursuit.”

The men fled towards the N2 southbound with Metro Police and Khumalo on their heels. They jumped into the river leading into Wilcox Road. The exit at Wilcox Road was blocked off and a dog was released into the bushes.

Metro officers waded into the polluted river to ensure the men did not try and escape.

“A Metro officer tackled one man, who was arrested, while another surrendered. The third man managed to flee,” said Krishnee.

The men were handed over to Isipingo SAPS.
