The guns will be sent for ballistics tests.

KWAMAKHUTHA police netted a stolen vehicle and arrested two men with unlicensed guns during crime prevention duties in the Zwelisha area on Friday evening, 16 October.

“They gave chase and the occupants sped off. Along Sheleni Road in Adams Mission, the vehicle crashed into a street pole and the occupants were injured. Police arrested two men, aged 28 and 30.

They were in possession of unlicensed firearms which were seized,” said provincial police spokesman, Col Jay Naicker.

KwaMakhutha police is investigating cases of possession of unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen property.

The injured men were taken to hospital for medical attention and will appear in court soon. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine if they were used in the commission of any crime in the country. No police officer was injured during the pursuit.

KZN police commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police. “We will thoroughly investigate to determine if these suspects can be linked to other criminal cases. Criminals should be aware that they cannot move around freely as we have members stationed in known escape routes, looking out for them,” she said.
