Eskom warns of phishing scam

The power utility urges the public to report fraud and corruption.

ESKOM warns the public about a phishing scheme where criminals claim the power utility is offering franchise opportunities for the distribution of prepaid electricity vending machines.

The con artists claim the distributors would be able to resell electricity at a price that they would determine themselves.

Electricity prices are determined by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) and no reseller is allowed to put any mark ups. Eskom urges the public not to have any dealings with the SA Tendergate website as this is a phishing scheme.

It also reminds the public that all business opportunities available from Eskom would be advertised on its own website www.eskom.co.za.

The public is urged to report incidents of fraud, corruption and irregularities involving the Eskom brand to the toll free crime line on 0800-11-27-22 or email investigate@eskom.co.za.
