Child care centres clebrate Heritage Day

Children from both child care centres prepared exciting dances, songs, speeches and poetry.

TWO child care centres got together to share, interact, teach and learn from each other on Heritage Day, 24 September.

Mother of Peace and District 49 in Umkomaas joined hands in celebration of Heritage Day.

The morning began with guest speaker Mathabo Masilela who empowered the women, taking each one back to childhood and noting the importance of qualities inherited that shape our lives today.

“What is it about your heritage that has influenced who you are and what you do? As women, each one of you has taken up this commitment to support, take care of and contribute to the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children. How will you now ensure that these children draw on heritage to contribute to a thriving society?” said Masilela in a moving session.

The children from both child care centres prepared exciting dances, songs, speeches and poetry for their excited and enthusiastic audience and their peers.

“It is the strong family ties and importance of family life that led to the community of Mother of Peace, Illovo. We as adults need to teach the children as much as we can about heritage encompassing culture, qualities they inherit, the history of Heritage Day but most importantly love is what we inherit from God, it is ours and this is what we must share with the world,” said general manager, Iris Canham.

A delicious meal was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti to the delight of the 100 children.

How can you help MOP instil qualities that inspire a healthy future generation? They are calling on volunteers for inspirational speaking, occupational therapy, psychology and ECD.

Also needed are clothing for boys aged five to eight-years-old, formula for babies, canned food, text books for all subjects for grade 5, prizes and sponsorship for a golf day at Amanzimtoti Country Club on Friday, 30 October.

If able to assist, call 031-916-2299.
