Help out at SPCA during animal week

Volunteers will be shaking tins to collect money, but donations of food, blankets and toys are also welcome.

WORLD Animal Week is commemorated from Sunday, 4 October to Sunday, 10 October, a good time to get involved in activities at Amanzimtoti SPCA.

The week has become a globally recognised calendar event that unites the world in its celebration of animals and helps raise the standard of animal welfare and happiness worldwide.

“Animal Week is a special week of the year when we can celebrate the wonderful role that our pets play in our lives and try to show them just how much they mean to us,” said Toti SPCA PRO, Michelle Hannan.

To celebrate, the SPCA will hold a street collection at Seadoone Mall, Pick n Pay Hyper Arbour Crossing, Makro Toti, Kingsburgh Mall and Scottburgh Mall on Saturday,10 October from 9am to 2pm.

Michelle also urges the community to visit the SPCA premises at 1 Nyati Road, Athlone Park. “Adopt a pet or perhaps walk the adoption dogs. By law, one has to be to 16-years or older to walk dogs.”

Pop in to have a look in the charity shops. There are two shops, one in Athlone Park and one in Arbuthnot Street, Shop 17a in the Southern Cross Centre. They are open from 9am to noon. Drop off donations at the shops if this is more convenient for you.
