Scholars to stash trash and win

We want the youngsters to take ownership of the park.

Amanzimtoti Sports Centre (ASC) based at Hutchison Park wants to get all Toti children involved in making Hutchison Park a clean, safe and secure area for them to come and play sport and enjoy themselves.

In its first community initiative, it invites all children aged between 10 and 17-years-old to enter the Stash Your Trash competition to stand a chance to win R500 for you and R500 for your school.

“Submit your artwork or designs for the trash bins around the park, as fun and eye-catching as possible, so the public and visitors to the park use the trash bins to deposit their rubbish, thereby keeping our park clean and litter-free,” said ASC chairman, Craig Chamier.

Winners’ artwork will be printed and displayed on all the bins in the park.

All schools are invited to send as many entries as they wish. “We would like to give as many children the opportunity as possible to showcase their artwork around Hutchison Park,” said Craig.

Think enviroment – healthy, trees and plants, birds and animals. Think social responsibility – people, recreation, playing sport, a picnic and enjoying family time together. Think conservancy – inspiring a cleaner, healthier and happier community.

Your poster must contain the ASC emblem, the Fish Eagle and give him a name, a logo, such as ‘It is your park, so please stash your trash in here’, and have black and orange in the design somewhere, to represent Amanzimtoti club colours.

All entries should be A3 size and be accompanied by the name and contact details of the entrant.

Closing date for entries is on Friday, 15 October.

Judging will take place on Wednesday, 21 October.

Contact Cathy Colley on 083-767-9471 to collect your artwork for submission before Friday, 15 October or if you have any queries.

“We want the youngsters to take ownership of the park. It is their park and they should be proud of it,” said Craig.

“We are frustrated about the amount of continuous rubbish in the park. We want to open the park for the community and we want them to get involved and clean it up.”
