Young Toti entrepreneur, Joshua Henzi-Fourie (7) is selling silkworms to raise funds for charity.

The young businessman decided to start his charity business after he started to lose his faith when countless prayers for a Lego dinosaur went unanswered.

In explanation his mother Danielle Henzi asked him whose prayers he thought God would answer – his or a homeless girl who was praying for a blanket to keep her family warm.

This struck a cord in the grade 1 Warner Beach Prep pupil and he decided to sell silkworms and donate the proceeds to his church to purchase blankets for the poor, and little burn victim Willow Malan, whose parents are fundraising to pay for her medical bills.

“My school is selling raffle tickets for Willow,” said Joshua. “She came to meet me and gave me a trophy for raising funds for her.

I’ve had silkworms since I was three-years-old, but this is the first time I’m selling them.”

To date Joshua has sold about 900, but he still has thousands up for grabs, much to his mom’s amusement.

“I couldn’t believe how it took off,” she said. “This is really what Joshua wanted to do.”

Marketing has only been done with an advert Danielle placed on a local social media page. It reads: Imported breeding stock; hand-reared; not really toilet-trained; to approved homes only; R10 for 10 silkworms, which includes a secret map of mulberry tree locations.

“Next year we want to find a charity to generate income for and involve the Toti community selling silkworms to fundraise.”
