AN altercation between two groups of men from Wentworth and Newlands East is believed to have led to the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Montreal King after the Durban Day event at Moses Mabhida Stadium’s People’s Park on Sunday night, 6 September.
With the assistance of community involvement, Durban Central police arrested two suspects aged 18 and 19 on Monday.
They will be charged for murder and attempted murder and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon.
It is alleged that there was an altercation between the two groups from Wentworth and Newlands East within the park who were allegedly insulting each other when one of the men stabbed King in the chest. After stabbing him, the knifeman dropped the knife and fled, while his friend kicked the victim. Security guards immediately intervened and removed the two groups from the park.
Paramedics arrived but were unable to resuscitate King, who died at the scene. Meanwhile, outside the park, a friend of the deceased was stabbed in the hand by the other suspect who also fled. A third victim is believed to have been admitted to hospital and the circumstances around his stabbing form part of the police investigation.
