Five-year-old becomes mobile through donation

Kwanele has had a shunt put in, however he still has no use of his legs.

The fourth wheelchair recipient from the Buy a Ride – Give Them Wheels campaign is Kwanele Mlambo, who was born with a hole in his spine, spinal bifida and hydrocephalus.

Mark White Nissan Amanzimtoti started the campaign in April, where a percentage from any vehicle sold from the dealership is put aside for the wheelchair foundation.

Kwanele has had a shunt put in, however he still has no use of his legs.

“This young, vibrant five-year-old was sliding himself in a seated position to get around and he was becoming too heavy to exit the house with his parents,” said Bianca Brown, who was instrumental in setting up the donation.

“His father Sifiso was our employee. Kwanele has been house-bound for five years and to get him anywhere was difficult.

He was utilising a baby walking ring. However, without the use of his legs, it did not help much. Kwanele is a bright young lad and can move mountains not only with his strength this far, but for the bright young mind he has. Bless Mark White Nissan for this opportunity of hope and restoring good faith in human nature. It is absolutely amazing that he can now get out and he is so happy with his new wheelchair.”
