Weekend crashes injure 11

Two of three incidents occurred on the N2 highway.

ELEVEN people were injured in three separate accidents, two on the N2 highway and the third on Kingsway in Toti on Saturday, 8 August.

In the first incident, three people were injured after a vehicle overturned on the southbound lane of the N2 under the Umgababa bridge in the morning.
“Paramedics and Road Traffic Inspectorate officials found the wreckage of the vehicle had come to rest in the breakdown lane. The injured climbed out of the wreckage and were found at the side of the road.

Paramedics treated them before taking them to a Scottburgh hospital,” said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.
In the second incident which occurred at about noon, six people were injured after two vehicles collided on Twini Hill.

“Paramedics and other emergency services found the road obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles. After triaging, it was established two people had sustained serious injuries while four escaped with minor injuries.The injured were treated and taken to various hospitals,” said Chris.

In the third incident, two people were injured in a motorbike accident along Kingsway in Toti in the afternoon. “A report indicated a biker struck a pedestrian near the Toti railway station and service station in the CBD. Netcare 911 paramedics and other services found the biker and the woman pedestrian on the ground. After triaging, medics found the biker had sustained serious injuries while the pedestrian escaped with minor injuries,” said Chris.

After treatment, they were taken to various hospitals for further care.
The incidents will be investigated by police.
