Conference to empower women in business

The conference aims to reduce the triple challenges of inequality, poverty and unemployment.

ETHEKWINI Municipality hosts a women’s empowerment conference to enhance the participation of women in development programmes at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on Thursday, 6 August.

It will focus on enhancing women’s economic development in various sectors aiming to reduce the triple challenges of inequality, poverty and unemployment.

Businesswomen will be given an opportunity to share ideas with their peers on how they have developed their businesses, to inspire others who are already running businesses or those who aspire to become entrepreneurs.

The municipality acknowledges the valuable contribution made by women in the economic growth and development of the city and such conferences have been established to empower women with business skills.

“As government we believe women play a pivotal role in transforming the economy of our country to address unemployment, poverty and inequality. The municipality has established programmes to empower women, which is more important now as the country enters its second phase of democratic transition, which focuses on radical economic transformation,” said deputy mayor Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala.

Shabalala added the municipality has partnered with reputable companies to ensure women in business are capacitated with business skills, which will ensure they take full advantage of the economic opportunities available to them, particularly in male-dominated sectors.

The municipality invites women in business and those who are interested in starting their own business to register and be part of this exciting conference.

Application forms are available and the registration fee to participate is R150. The closing date for registration is Friday, 31 July.
