Robbers posing as cops steal car, cells

Two men with firearms entered the house and told them they were police officers.

Robbers posing as policemen robbed an Unkomaas house on Tuesday night, 14 July.

Major Thulani Zwane of the KZN SAPS media centre said the 38-year-old homeowner was asleep and was woken by her sister.

“When she opened the door, two men with firearms entered the house and told them they were police officers.

They made enquiries about the vehicle outside, whether it has a tracking device and if it was paid up. They then demanded the car keys and threatened her. They took the vehicle and four cellphones and fled the scene.”

A case of house robbery was opened at Umkomaas for investigation and no arrests have been made.

The robbery follows a similar incident on Monday, 13 July when robbers posing as policemen entered a Cato Manor residence at about 7.35pm.

“The 55-year-old victim was at his house when four robbers entered posing as police officials,” said Major Zwane. “The men produced firearms and robbed him of cash, his firearm, jewellery and cellphone before fleeing in their vehicle.”

A case of house robbery was opened at Cato Manor SAPS for investigation and no arrests or recoveries have been made.”
