Car ramps off N2 into trees

Three women were seriously injured.

THREE people were injured, one critically, after a vehicle veered off the road on the N2 at Umgababa and became airborne before landing in trees on Sunday morning, 12 July.

“Reports from the scene indicate the women were traveling from Umkomaas when the vehicle veered off the roadway, smashed through the armco barriers, hit the ground and flew about 150 metres before landing nose first in a clump of trees down an embankment,” said Netcare 911’s media liaison, Chris Botha.

Netcare 911 paramedics found two of the women had been ejected from the vehicle and had landed in thick bush several metres from the car. The third woman had clambered out and was found under the trees. “After triaging, medics found one woman sustained critical injury, while two were in a serious but stable condition.

After paramedics stabilised the patients, they immobilised them on trauma boards before they carried them up an embankment with the help of tow truckers and locals.

All three were hospitalised.
