Crisis counsellors sharpen their listening skills
Those attending learnt specific skills required to care for people in crisis.
AFRICA Cares for Life hosted a successful, well-attended Christian crisis counselling course at Lionsgate Chuch last week.
Trainer, Daniele Gradwell conducted the course which is designed to equip those wanting to help care for people who are hurting and those going through a crisis.
“The programme teaches specific skills required to care for people in crisis, such as the qualities of an effective helper, communication skills and how to climb the steps to crisis intervention. The programme is interactive and makes use of experiential learning exercises and role plays to equip those wanting to help people in crisis. I have been teaching this programme for 10 years and have always received positive feedback on the learning material and experience,” said Daniele Gradwell.
People who attended had positive things to say. Some of the comments were: “‘I learnt how special it is to be a good listener’ and ‘the course helped me to realise that I do not have all the answers to solve problems, but (I) can help others'”
