Soccer action unites communities at fun day
Social events also kept the crowds entertained.
URGED on by a boisterous and enthusiastic crowd, Isipingo Soccer Legends and Illovo Legends entertained a large crowd with some thrilling football which brought back memories of the rivalry that existed between both teams from yesteryear.
“Although the fitness levels were lacking, the skills were present. Ably led by Dhanesh in midfield, Illovo put the Isipingo defence under all sorts of pressure, but Megan and Morgan held on grimly. Isipingo drew first blood through Colin, but Illovo drew level immediately to set up a tense finish. Colin who was prominent in attack, scored a well-taken volley to give Isipingo a deserved win. Credit must be given to both teams for their exemplary behaviour on and off the field,” said Bull Govender of Isipingo.
Thanks go to legends Mike Moodley, Super Naidoo, Gopi Naidoo and Vincent Pillay for making the event a huge success. Special mention goes to Gopi Tegat and Mark Gounder and their teams for staging an unforgettable extravaganza which included tug-o-war; a sari queen contest and thunee competition. Popular musican, Sidney Naidoo and MC ElvinTegat kept the senior citizens entertained with some lovely tunes from yesteryear.
