Business redirects food to needy after robbery

People on the streets and at a caravan park received meals.

SOME 250 destitute people benefited from food items donated by Southgate Service Station to Jeremiah Outreach of the AFM Kingsway Church in Toti.

The items were donated after an armed gang blew up two drop safes and stole a large amount of cash from the business in the early hours of Wednesday, 17 June.

“We received a call on the morning of the incident and were glad to receive the generous donation,” said Freddie Lewis of Jeremiah Outreach.

Over two days, the organisation received trolleys of bread, hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, chicken wraps, buns and puddings.

“We fed people on the streets of Toti on day one and on the second day visited Winklespruit Caravan Park, where each person received a meal. Usually we supply to a household, not individuals, but in this case each person benefited.”

Jeremiah Outreach has been in operation since January and supplies soup and bread to the hungry on the streets and spreads the word of God. “The response has been great as we are not only feeding people, but talking and listening to them. With our help, some people have been able to leave the streets, some have joined the church and others have reunited with their families.

With winter in full swing, donations of warm clothes, shoes and blankets are urgently needed. If able to assist, contact Freddie on 073-887-4038.
