Pedestrian (9) killed while crossing N2

Two more injured in separate accidents on the same day.

A CHILD was killed and two men were seriously injured in three separate accidents on Saturday morning, 27 June.

In the first incident, a pedestrian (9) died near the Ilfracombe off-ramp on the N2.

“The girl and another child were standing alongside the highway, the nine-year- old tried to run across the road, but landed in front of a vehicle traveling towards Durban. Paramedics found the child lying on the road verge, but she had died before their arrival due to the extensive injuries she sustained,” said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.

In a second, unrelated incident, a man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on the R102 in Umgababa.

“The bike was traveling toward Umkomaas when it struck a dog.  Paramedics found the passenger of the bike had been flung off and landed down an embankment with serious injuries. The dog was found on the road, but it had died. After medics treated the biker, he was transported to hospital by the provincial ambulance services for the care he required.”

In a third incident, a man was seriously injured along the R102 in Widenham.

“The driver was traveling towards Durban and while rounding a bend, he veered off the roadway and collided with the armco barriers. The force of the impact was so great the front of the vehicle broke up and was found spread over an area of about 50m.”

Paramedics found the driver had been ejected from the wreckage and was lying in thick undergrowth next to the road. The wreckage was found several metres away. After medics treated the man, they transported him to an area hospital for further care.”
