Pedestrian critical after five car pile-up

The roadway was littered with accident debris

A five car pile-up on the N2 south at Umgababa left four people injured, one critically so, on Thursday evening, 25 June at about 7.30pm.

There was reduced visibility due to a large volume of smoke covering the roadway when the accident occurred.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the police services found the roadway littered with accident debris and the twisted frames of vehicles scattered over about a hundred metres. A bakkie had veered off the roadway on impact and collided with a pedestrian at the side of the roadway. Paramedics had to pull the critically wounded man from under the vehicle before they could stabilise him.

Two other people were seriously injured, while one escaped with minor injuries. After all the injured were treated at the scene, medics transported them to various area hospitals.
