Bare branches of welfare’s fundraising slow in growing

It needs to raise R70,000 by November.

KINGSBURGH Child and Family Welfare Society’s drive to raise R70,000 for its 70th anniversary in November, has so far only raised just over R10,000.

The community is urged to dig deep into their pockets and support the initiative, which aims to collect R1,000 for every year of the society’s existence, to continue with the much-needed services it provides in the area.

On Thursday, 11 June the society received a R1,000 donation from Illovo Primary School. “We really appreciate schools coming to the party and challenge other schools to do the same,” said senior social worker Sandra Govender.

The donation was added as a ‘new leaf’ to a money tree in the organisation’s Warner Beach offices. Currently, the tree has a number of bare branches, which needs to grow enough green leaves by the November deadline.

Principal of Illovo Primary School, Mags Moodley said ‘child welfare provides an essential service with no funding from the government and has assisted them on several occasions.’

“When the school received a request to assist with funds, we responded positively as we are always willing to help the disadvantaged, in spite of many of our children coming from similar circumstances. The children contributed and we reached our target of R1,000.”
