Armed robbers netted after high speed chase

From evidence in the vehicle, the two men were positively linked to two armed robberies.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) and local security companies assisted Toti SAPS in capturing two known armed robbers on Seadoone Road on Monday, 8 June.

According to operations manager, Leon Joone, CCPO volunteer George Snodey was driving up Seadoone Road when a blue Toyota Corolla came speeding down on the wrong side of the road, with the police in hot pursuit.

The driver of the Corolla lost control and crashed into George’s vehicle. His accomplice jumped out and fled, with George in pursuit.

The driver exchanged gunfire with the police and was shot in the leg. His firearm was recovered.

Local residents assisted George in tracking the fleeing robber and after calling Leon and with assistance from the Metro Police dog unit, the robber was flushed out and Leon apprehended him.

“From evidence in the vehicle, the two men were positively linked to two armed robberies committed that morning and they were allegedly involved in various other cases. We thank the community for exposing the robber’s hiding place.”
