The woman had been driving a Mini Cooper on Kingsway just after midnight, in the vicinity of the Adams Road on-ramp to the N2 when she was involved in an accident.
The cause of the crash is unclear but both the driver and her passenger were left largely uninjured.
However, tow truckers who witnessed what followed have been left shaken by the woman’s death, which came about when she needed to relieve herself.
According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the woman allegedly jumped over a low armco barrier – not realising that beyond it was a 10-metre drop. She fell to her death onto rocks below.
Netcare 911 paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Police will open an inquest for investigation into circumstances surrounding her death.
