Resident tussles with burglar

The couple quickly raised the alarm and posted on a St Winifreds crime group on Whatsapp.

A St Winifreds couple were lucky to escape unharmed after confronting two robbers in their Tecoma Place home on Tuesday night, 26 May, and were full of praise for the quick help from their neighbourhood cellular crime group.

Tiffanee Cox said she was awoken by a noise at about 11.15pm, which she initially thought it was their cat on their awning.

Disregarding the idea, she woke her fiance Gareth White who upon investigation caught the thieving pair in the act of removing their gaming console in the lounge.

“Gareth fought with the one for the console, but he managed to wrestle it away and they made their escape,” said Tiffanee.

It was a horrible experience. It happened so quickly and we are still shaken up by the incident.”

The couple quickly raised the alarm and posted on a St Winifreds crime group on Whatsapp. “Two families came out and helped us search the premises.”

It is suspected the thieves gained access to a window by jumping on the couple’s awning.

In a housebreaking incident in Gus Brown Road the same day, a laptop, cellphone and tablet were taken through the open window of a grany flat.

Residents were on the lookout for a man with a blue backpack later that same day, after an Impala Road residence was broken into for a second time in a week.
