Police swoop on criminals, net drugs

Eight people were arrested for drug-related crimes.

TOTI SAPS secured a number of arrests and recovered goods between Tuesday, 5 May and Sunday, 17 May.

Twenty-three people were nabbed for shoplifting; two for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm; three for robbery; seven for general theft; four for housebreaking and one for malicious damage to property.

In drug-related crimes, four people were arrested for possession of whoonga; two for dagga; one for heroin and one for ecstasy.

In other crimes, one person was arrested for trespassing; six for loitering for the purpose of prostitution; two for drunk driving; one for selling illegal cigarettes under Customs and Excise Act and one for contravening a peace order.

One person was arrested for catching undersized fish without a permit.

Recovered goods were two vehicles, a cellphone, bicycle, pair of takkies, Ryobi grinder, box of ceramic tiles and a bag containing copper pipes, clothing, toiletries and an ID.

Drugs recovered were 11 straws of whoonga, 30 slopes of dagga, four heroin tablets and five ecstasy tablets.
