Burglars bust by CCPO

The men were positively identified by the complainant.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) has had a busy week, with arrests and recovery of stolen goods.

CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone apprehended a housebreaker after he broke into a Saltwood residence at about 11am on Wednesday, 13 May.

“We received a call that the thief was on site, attempting to break in. Reaction officers and I approached the back of the house and the suspect fled through a broken window.”

A long foot chase ensued in the Izimangweni area near Old Main Road with the apprehension of the thief, thanks to assistance from the local community.

“Fortunately he didn’t have time to take anything,” said Leon.

A woman walking along Prince Street from Pick n Pay to McDonalds had her bag stolen at knifepoint by two thieves on Tuesday, 12 May at about 2.30pm.

“The handbag was recovered by a passerby,” said leon.

“The two men were chased by community members onto the beach.

“The CCPO was alerted and supervisor Michael Mkhize and security officer Wilson Ngcobo caught the two at Umbogintwini beach. They admitted to robbing the victim and the knife used in the robbery was found buried on the beach.”

The men were positively identified by the complainant.

Another stolen bicycle was recovered by the CCPO in the early hours of Thursday morning, 14 May in Pine Crescent. It has been handed in at Toti SAPS.

A housebreaker was apprehended by Blue Security and the CCPO in Raymond Crescent. Housebreaking implements were found in his possession and he was arrested by Toti SAPS.
