Traffic Guy, JVB, wows 21 Club

He spoke dramatically of the very real danger presented by hijackers.

THE 21 Club members came out in green to honour St Patrick at the March luncheon.

Four-leafed clovers and the legendary rainbows with pots of gold decorated the Lords and Legends conference room, while leprechauns lurked in buckets of foliage on each table.

Many thanks to Greg and his staff for the excellent roast lamb lunch followed, most appropriately, by lime cheesecake.

Guest speaker, Johan von Bargen, East Coast Radio’s terrific ‘Traffic Guy’, had the full attention of all 86 members and guests. He spoke dramatically of the very real danger presented by hijackers. He emphasised the importance of awareness at all times and outlined the best course of action in various scenarios.

Although the topic was utterly serious, Johan still managed to raise a few good laughs which often served to make a valid point. Everyone felt more confident about dealing with potential hijacking after his enlightening talk. The 21 Club looks forward to hosting Johan again.

Four new members were welcomed: Aafke Horwood, Elke Algeier, Sandy Viljoen and Hannelore Wagner. The club looks forward to great times together. It was also great to have Golda Smyly and Wendy Ward back after illness.

April’s luncheon will celebrate 21 Club’s 63rd birthday. The colour theme is black, white, silver and gold, but feel free to wear your favourite party outfit. The luncheon will be held at noon for 12.30pm at Lords and Legends on Wednesday, 22 April. Members are reminded that confirmation of intention to attend or not, and names of guests, must be received by Lyn on 082-572-1328 or 031-903-4026 or Gwyn on 072-223-3009 or 031-903-3126 no later than Friday, 17 April. The speaker will be Norma Stapelberg of Creative Image Craft and Painting Studios.

Guests will be accommodated if there is room.
