Victim empowerment in focus at welfare training session

Programme aims to sensitise service providers and communities on gender issues.

A NUMBER of people attended a victim empowerment training programme at Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare Society on Wednesday, 25 March.

It was presented by senior social worker, Sandra Govender and focused on gender sensitivity and domestic violence.

“This program is designed to raise awareness about domestic violence and victim empowerment among service providers and communities,” said Sandra.

It’s aim is to sensitise service providers and communities on gender issues, as well as to the problems and difficulties experienced by women and men who have been abused.

“It encourages communities to work together to take action and to develop understanding and empathy for women and men who have been abused.”

Should any faith based organisation, individuals and companies be interested in receiving free training on victim empowerment and domestic violence, contact Sandra or Janette at the welfare offices on 031-916-2274, between 8am and noon.
